Worms move by stretching out and then contracting (becoming shorter).
They use two sets of muscles to do this. One set of muscles wraps around the worm and is used to stretch out long and thin. The other set of muscles stretches across the worm and is used to contract.
The segments that make up a worm’s body also have tiny spines on them called “setae.” Worms use these hooks to latch onto soil particles and pull themselves forward.
Last but not least, a worm’s body is covered with slimy goop, which helps the worm glide along.
Worms move by stretching out and then becoming shorter. They have special muscles that do this.
