This may sound disgusting, but your intestines look a lot like a giant worm. However, that isn’t the only reason why worms are sometimes called “the Earth’s intestines.” Another good reason is that worms swallow and grind up soil, just like your intestines grind up food.
Worms also chomp on dead leaves and other plant material, as well as dead bugs. They devour all of this “food” and then this gunk (called “castings”) comes out of their back ends. It may be gross, but castings are very good for the soil.
Admit it. These worms look like your guts--your intestines. That’s why worms are called “the Earth’s intestines.”
