How do you create soil?

To create soil, all you have to do is shoot some electricity into it. Then stand back and scream in your mad-scientist voice, “IT’S ALIVE!” No wait, sorry. That’s how you create a Frankenstein monster.

Creating soil is a lot less scary. Soil is a mixture of many different things. It mostly contains pieces of rock that have been broken into tiny particles over long periods of time. (This process is called “weathering.”) Soil also includes dead animals, bugs, plants that have rotted in the ground, and lots of air and water.

It can take about 500 to 1,000 years for only 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) of soil to form. So it’s a good idea if we don’t let it wash or blow away.
